Open Heart Games: The Story So Far. . .

Dear Friends and Fellow Adventurers,

Well folks, it has been just over a month since we officially launched Open Heart Games so we thought it would be a great time for a small recap of what we have done so far and what we still plan to do.

First of all, we would like to thank all of you who have taken the time to check out our website, our blog, and our Facebook page. Thank you to everyone who has shared or liked our social media posts. We are blown away by your support and we already have over 200 followers on Facebook. [We hope to branch out into Instagram too in the coming months.] We recently created a Facebook group too and are pleased to already have over 60 followers there as well. And thank you to all of you who have joined us for our first campaign! We have a full group for D&D 5E Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden (find out more about the campaign here) and we just announced our second campaign this week! [Our Facebook group followers were given the opportunity to vote on what module they wanted us to run next and Rime of the Frostmaiden was the winner!] We hope you are all having fun with and enjoying Open Heart Games as much as we are.

By now, we hope you all know that charity is at the heart of what we do. When we started planning this business venture in late 2020, we knew that we wanted to accomplish a couple of things with it. One, we wanted a way to connect with people across the country and around the globe. [If the pandemic taught us anything, it was how important those interactions are to us, both as individuals and as gamers!] Two, we wanted a creative outlet and a means of creating content specifically for the gaming community that we are both so privileged to be a part of. And three, we wanted a way to give back to our community. We partnered with Extra Life because we had both worked with them in our professional pasts and because children’s hospitals are so important to us due to Karington’s early childhood medical condition. As a young child, Karington was diagnosed with a congenital heart disorder known as an Atrial-Septal Defect (ASD) which required him to receive lifesaving open-heart surgery at the tender age of 2 years old at Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Open Heart Games donates a portion of each month’s sales directly to Extra Life in support of our local children’s hospital, Carilion Children’s. We are pleased to announce that since our launch, we have raised $161!

So with one month under our belts as entrepreneurs, what are our new goals? First of all, we hope to keep giving back and to keep hitting and surpassing our fundraising goals! We also hope to engage more with our followers through our Facebook group page—we want to hear from you about everything from what topics we should discuss in our blog to what modules you want us to run to what your favorite things are about being a part of the gaming community! We are also busy planning some new cool things to offer y’all, including running one-shots and selling merchandise! Let us know in the comments what you want to see Open Heart Games provide in the upcoming months!

Thank you all again for helping to make our dreams for Open Heart Games come true. We honestly could not do it without you!

Take Heart!

Karington & Abigail Hess
